Located in North Nevada, Winnemucca is often referred to as the Crossroads of the West, as it is intersected by State Highway 95 and Interstate 80, offering direct access to Reno, Nevada; Salt Lake City, Utah; and the Oregon state line. Winnemucca is a city rich with history, which it showcases in the Buckaroo Hall of Fame and the Humboldt County Historical Museum. Wander into Winnemucca's historic downtown area to find a variety of restaurants and stores that gives visitors a taste of life in this city. Winnemucca boasts several 24-hour casinos which offer slot machines and table games. Each year, the annual Winnemucca Mule Races, Show and Draft Horse Challenge takes place here, featuring exciting events, including barrel racing, log-skidding, cart-racing and the famous 25 mi (40 km) Mule Endurance Race. For the outdoor enthusiasts, Winnemucca also provides access to the Bloody Shins Trail, a trail designed for mountain biking, hiking and horseback riding.
